This is a brilliant informative website which gives a very clear account of the disaster of 1896. I have found out masses of information some of which pertain to distant relatives. I have to admit that I was ignorant of the disaster until researching my family tree but have found this site very educational.
The reality of mining and the harsh lives that people lived at this time is made very apparent.
