Several newspaper reports mentioned that a Richard Watson had been rescued from the pit. Unfortunately this name does not match any of the local miners found at the time to be working around Peckfield. Watson was a common surname in Micklefield and Sherburn in Elmet, but there wasn’t a Richard Watson found around the time of the Peckfield Colliery Disaster. It may have been a mis-spelling, but a match has not been found against other possible variants, like Richard Walton, Dick Watson, etc.
