Henry Goodall

Story

Henry Goodall was born in Barnbow, Crossgates on 20th February 1860.  His parents were Thomas Goodall (1809-1885) and Ann Francis (1815-1887).  Ann was the widow of Richard Thompson when she married Thomas in Rothwell on 6th July 1856.  Henry was a coal miner living on Barnbow Lane in 1881, and married Thirza Carr (1858-1922) in Sherburn in Elmet on 14th April 1884.  The couple moved to 1 Crescent, and Henry worked as a coal miner at Peckfield Colliery.  They had 5 sons before the Colliery Disaster, at which Henry was identified as a member of the rescue parties, having had the day off work.  He was 36 years-old.

After the disaster, Henry continued to work at Peckfield Colliery, and by 1911, he had been promoted to Night Deputy.  Henry and Thirza moved to 13 Sunnybank.  They later moved to 119 Garden Village, where Henry passed away in 1943 aged 83.
