Thomas & William Limbert

William  and Thomas Limbert were born in 1859 and 1863 respectively and were brothers from Seacroft.  Their parents were Thomas Limbert (1827-1863) and Eliza Wilby (1830-1907), who married on 9th September 1854 in Manston, Crossgates.  After the death of Thomas, Eliza re-married James Plows (1827-1885).  William was a coal miner working in Allerton Bywater when he married Elizabeth Ann Jones (1861-1936) in Leeds on 23rd February 1884.  The couple moved to 4 Crescent after they married, and William started working at Peckfield Colliery.  William was not working on the day of the explosion, but was on the scene quickly, and volunteered to join one of the early rescue parties.  After the disaster they moved to 17 Sunnybank, and William was promoted to Pit Deputy.  By 1911, they were living at 16 Prospect Terrace.  William passed away in 1936.  One of his sons, Walter Limbert (1887-1949) married Annie Wallis (1885-1954).  He also served in the Royal Field Artillery during the First World War.  He was wounded and gassed, but survived the conflict, and returned to work at Peckfield Colliery (below):

Thomas Limbert was a labourer at a Brick Works in 1881, and married Annie Hodgson in 1889, and then joined his brother in Micklefield, living at 9 Station Row.  He also joined the rescue parties after the colliery explosion.  He was still a coal miner in 1901, living at 9 Cliffe Terrace, before moving to 13 Crescent, where he died in 1909.
